These Street Art Murals will Drive You Wild

Wild Drawing is a street artist who was born in Bali, Indonesia, but is now based in Athens, Greece. His love of painting murals has taken him all over the world, however, to places like Sweden, England, Malta, Germany, France and Finland. Some of his paintings are created in urban settings such as warehouse districts but he has travelled a ways outside of cities to find new surfaces to paint his designs on and so some of his art installations are made on large boulders or ruined and abandoned buildings.

WD (Wild Drawing) has an interesting art style, in which he combines realism with graphic novel and comic book styles. The result is very eye-catching and appealing; each of his pieces make a bold statement without leaving you with the feeling that you’ve just had an artist yell in your face.

Not only does Wild Drawing combine his art styles; he also combines his mediums by using spray cans and paint rollers. What I am particularly impressed with is his ability to stand a few feet from a wall and paint with absolute perfection 3 meters above his own head. Imagine if you tied a pencil to the end of a very long pole and then tried to write your name on a wall a few feet above your head. It would be pretty difficult, right? Well, this is pretty much how Wild Drawing creates his art masterpieces. It’s an impressive feat.

On his website, Wild Drawing states that what he enjoys most about street art and graffiti is the ephemeral nature of the paintings. Each art work has a limited life span before it is destroyed by the weather, by decay or perhaps by council employees “cleaning up” the wall by painting over it. Of course, street art murals also fall prey to other street artists who sometimes add to a piece but generally detract from existing pieces by tagging over them or stencilling or placing stickers. This process of gradual degradation is a peculiar one, and it’s one that Wild Drawing has taken an interest in, saying that if he wanted to make works that stood the test of time, he would only paint on canvas.

A beautiful woman holds a magic chrystal in this extra large street art mural in Finland by Wild Drawing
Wild Drawing shows us his skill with rollers on long poles by creating this extra large mural in Finland. In the painting, a beautiful woman holds a magic chrystal as though to show it to the viewer. WD has included stunning floral patterns around the girl’s face to catch the attention of passers-by.

A monkey and a marsupial lie in wait for unsuspecting vivstors in this funny graffiti mural by Wild Drawing
Look out! Street artist Wild Drawing uses perspective to fool us into believing that a giant monkey and his marsupial thug are lying in wait for anyone who stumbles into their secret lair…

An adventurous monkey rides a flying horse in this street art mural in Germany by Wild Drawing
Graffiti muralist Wild Drawing has masterfully incorporated the windows on the left of this building into his finished art work by painting them in as windows in a building in the background. WD has unleashed his imagination in this epic mural by personifying an ape who hurtles through an antique city on the back of a strange flying horse beast.

An owl dominates this street corner through this street art mural in Greece by Wild Drawing
Artist Wild Drawing has a keen sense of perspective, as seen in this mural of an owl. The bird is painted on a street corner, stretching down the wall to either side and yet, when viewed from the right angle, it appears to be a flat image.

Concrete monsters rise up from the ground in this Greek art installation by Wild Drawing
Street artist Wild Drawing leaves his urban habitat to paint concrete monsters out of town.

Street artist Wild Drawing makes graphic novel styles reality with this street art installation in Germany
Wild Drawing’s brilliant graphic novel style makes it seem as though this installation is a relic from another world in which everything looks like a graphic novel. How strange they might view one of our 3D buses or elephants or hot air balloon.

This large street art mural in Paris shows a hybrid child seahorse praying. Painting by Wild Drawing
This large street art piece shows Wild Drawing’s fetish for combining opposing ideas in a cohesive whole. Here, he has combined roller painting and spray painting, realism and graphic novel styles as well as combining a human child with a seahorse to create this spiritual merbaby in Paris.
