Portuguese street artist Bordalo II has moved out of the realm of 2D street art and into the world of 3D sculptural graffiti. He recycles the unwanted remnants of human activity, ie, the rubbish that people discard from their homes and workplaces. Each piece of junk that finds its way into Bordalo’s art has its own history. The artist takes all of these rejected items and weaves them into a mixed media artwork, creating a new story for the junk to be a part of. The result is certainly more appealing than if the rubbish had been piled up in an alley way or junk yard.<\/p>\n
For this street art installation, Bordalo II has upcycled urban scrap items like corrugated iron and flexible piping to build up the shape of a chameleon. He adds more interest to his 3D graffiti by spray painting the sculpture, essentially camouflaging the junk that he has used as part of the chameleon’s character. \u00a0The design is elegant in its simplicity; Bordalo has created a strong, recognizable silhouette, so that even if the mural is viewed from a distance, the shape of the chameleon’s body is legible.<\/p>\n
