Australian graffiti artist Phibs has a distinctive street art style that combines elements of cartoon art and tribal designs. Many of his large street art paintings feature cartoon animals and human figures that are decorated with tribal patterns. These subjects co-exist with ethnic design elements in the overall piece that are rendered in a cartoonish manner. His use of bold outlines and flat areas of contrasting colors adds to both the cartoonish nature as well as the tribal elements of his graffiti art. Altogether, he has created a beautiful balance between two vastly different art styles.

Abstract designs are becoming more and more popular in street art, as the finished art work is generally more legible from a distance. Geometric shapes also allow street artist to create larger areas of solid color that catch the eyes of passersby. Check out more abstract graffiti murals on streetsonart.com.

Phibs has created a lot of street art in his home town of Melbourne, Australia, but you can also find some of his graffiti pieces in Berlin, Germany and New York, America. He’s one of the few street artists who has managed to enter the more commercial scene of commissioned art works without losing touch with his rebellious street art roots.
