This Berlin-based artist has decided to give himself the name, “El Bocho”, which means “Little Donkey”. While he might be a little donkey, one of El Bocho’s favorite characters to use in his street art is a cartoon character called Little Lucy, based on a Czechoslovakian cartoon from the 70s. But the little donkey thought that the original Little Lucy character was a little dull and so he gave her an unusual hobby – killing her cat. Throughout Berlin, El Bocho’s paper and paste and art works show Little Lucy and\/or her cat in a variety of scenes of adorable homicide. While imagery of a little girl killing her cat should be disturbing, El Bocho has rendered these characters in such an appealing and cheerful way that these scenes of apathetic murder become almost endearing.<\/p>\n
El Bocho has a second style of street art that is truly beautiful to behold. He creates large, graphic paper and paste portraits that are often accompanied by a poignant phrase, a wish or a hope written in his personal font. Organic outlines resemble the lines found on elevation maps; giving the flat areas of color within his art works depth and perspective. His portraits engage with his viewers by meeting their eye and empathising with their thoughts and emotions, often revealing ideas and beliefs that many people would keep to themselves. It’s refreshing to encounter a street art work that seems to start a conversation with you, by eliciting an emotional response, and the relationship formed between El Bocho’s characters and their viewers is a truly beautiful interaction to behold.<\/p>\n
